For Jill (part 2)

Araiya: 1

Barbie (and her role as a model of unrealistic unhealthy self-image, over-enhanced exhibitionist sexuality, retrograde pursuit of derogitory male approval, and unrestrained metaphysical material consumerism): 0

Actually the real reason the kid isn’t that into Barbie is because she’s two. The multitude of criticism of Barbie are well-documented, but irrelevant to someone who has as much fun with Kitchen utensils and Daddy’s tools as she does with products deriving from marketing strategies to sell kids an oversexualized hunk of plastic. One such item in my house is more than enough- Please inform your personal shoppers that their services in this regard will no longer be needed.

I would like to believe I and my personal preferences have been handed down and perhaps have more to do with it. Excerpt from Wikipedia:
“The nature versus nurture debates concern the relative importance of an individual’s innate qualities (“nature”) versus personal experiences (“nurture”) in determining or causing individual differences in physical and behavioral traits. The view that humans acquire all or almost all their behavioral traits from “nurture” is known as tabula rasa (“blank slate”). With the development of human genetics, many important human traits have been proven to be partially or mostly genetic. For a discussion of nature versus nurture in language and other human universals, see also psychological nativism.”

Araiya may now own a Barbie and interact with it, but she is still my kid!
