Adoption Costs

Ana’s Adoption Financials

It seems that everyone who adopts, whether internationally or domestically is plagued with varying information, duplicate fees, and the challenge of accurately determining expenses for the process to be completed.  We’ve moved very fast in the process and made quick decisions too, which further exasperates that.  But in a call to be good stewards, also with the money that God gives, we are budgetting for Ana’s Adoption. With the help of the Brinton’s, the Wilkerson’s and our Agencies, we’re putting forth the following budget:

Home Study Agency Application Fees $300
Home Study Contract and Immigration Paperwork Filing Fee $1825
Adoptive Parent Education $200
Immersive Language Training $400
International Adoption Agency Contract $2,875
Immigration fees $910
International Adoption Agency Dossier Filing $2,875
Foreign Adoption Program Foreign Fee with Dossier Submission $2,000
Travel Expenses for First Trip with girls (airfair 5 x $1,250 + $750, lodging 20days x $60, food est. 20days x $40) $9,000
International Adoption Program Foreign Fee at first Trip $2,000
In Country Immigration and Legal costs $600
Travel Expenses for Second Trip for Nat & Araiya & Ana (airfair 3 x $1,250, lodging 5days x $60, food est. 5days x $30) $4,300
Post Adoption Homestudy Fee (post-placements appointments) $1,050

TOTAL: $28,335

Fundraising

For 2012, we’ve been able to budget $5,500 for our out-of-pocket costs.  That leaves quite a chunk to be paid for us to even get to Eastern Europe for Ana.  We have chosen to raise funds for Ana’s adoption through what is called a Fig Fund.  It is an account that is setup by a 501c3 organization for tax-deductible donations that are exclusive to Ana.  In that case, if for some reason we are unable to adopt her, the money that has been donated to her adoption remains for her, and another family to adopt her.  This is a NFP PayPal payment for donors, so it is actually far cheaper for us too, in terms of what we would pay tax-wise for gifts to us income-wise vs the PayPal fee that is paid via PayPal.

In 2013, we will run some other fundraising and give people the option to donate directly to us with air miles, checks or if they want to pay electronically to the Fig Fund.
